Snow White
Mirror, mirror on the wall... if you like fairytales, visit Lohr's Snow White. You didn't know that Snow White was a woman from Lohr?
SNOW WHITE WAS FROM LOHR
Everyone knows the fairy tale of Snow White and the seven dwarfs. Like every fairy tale, the legend of Snow White has a kernel of truth. According to Lohr pharmacist and historian Dr. Karlheinz Bartels, Freifräulein Maria Sophia Margaretha Catharina von Erthal, born in Lohr Castle in 1725, is the historical model for Snow White.
Not only the "Snow White Castle" with its museum reminds of the fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm: During a walk through Lohr you will discover many interactive points through which one can get in touch with the fairy tale: e.g. the dwarf house in the grounds, Snow White on the park bench, the Snow White mirror at the cellar barn and many more.

Fairy tale and reality
In 1986, Dr. Karlheinz Bartels, a pharmacist and historian from Lohr, discovered that in the fairy tale "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" there were some parallels to Lohr and its town history. Thereupon, after intensive research, he put forward the thesis that if there was a historical model for Snow White, she must have been a woman from Lohr. According to Dr. Bartels, Freifräulein Maria Sophia Margaretha Catharina von Erthal, born in Lohr Castle in 1725, is the historical model for Snow White.

The Horrorwittchen
Artist Peter Wittstadt's interpretation of Lohr's Snow White sparked a heated debate among Lohr residents about the winner of the First Lohr Art Prize in 2013. Lohr high school student Valentin Lude took up the theme and sprayed himself into the hearts of Lohr residents with his graffiti. Since then, his silhouette has enjoyed great popularity in Lohr, adorning many cars and T-shirts.
